An Old Fairy Tale
Jonjo West
When the years added to
a long,
long
time ago
and her hair changed
from gold
to silver
and Prince Charming left this land to
live in a kingdom
far,
far
away,
the princess gazed into the looking glass
longing for sleep.
She saw in her reflection
the sword
whereby to
slay the angry dragon.
Approaching her midnight hour in despair,
the princess was granted a final thrust.
The fire from the beast's
last breath
formed
a crystal ball
and,
from its smoky sphere,
emerged a simple woodsman
with a taste for pumpkin.
Their fairy tale kiss
awakened
the hope within her to
find
her happily ever now.
